DOCKLANDS

with Monash University design studio - Year 4

The brief was to add an artistic element to the Docklands precinct in Melbourne, Australia. Our investigation of the area uncovered that the mysteriousness of Melbourne’s hidden laneways and accessible rooftops, for which Melbourne is famous, had not yet found it’s way into this part of the city. The intention was to inject some of that mystery into this water-centric, urban amphitheater in the form of paired-back timber oblongs that temporarily remove their visitors from the high-rise concrete jungle around them. Instead drawing focus back to the natural elements that once defined these swamplands; the sky when encouraged to look up through The Tower, and the water when the floor disconcertingly opens up at the end of The Cantilever.
